Most people do not realize how difficult wood flooring is to source, process and turn into finish product. Before arriving in your home the wood has a quite a bit of tests to pass. This is very true specially if the wood you are about to get it installed is from Brazil or South America.
The picture gallery below just shows one stage of these tests; transporting from forest to mill. It is a tough trip specially June, July and August. Most mills are about 1000 miles from where the trees logged. Due the climate, permanent roads flooded, swept and filled with mud.
Most of these roads leads to east coast of Brazil, but there is a major road project that will connect logging areas to Pacific Ocean coast Peru, so some mills will move to Peru or near in near future.
I have met a truck driver who had stuck in this massive mud and has been waiting 2 weeks until the mud dried to rescue this trailer. He has to live in the truck and get help from locals during that time, can not leave the truck or the logs.
